Cellular PVC
What is cellular pvc?
Cellular PVC is the world's third most manufactured synthetic plastic polymer. Each year, about 40 million tons of PVC are produced. Cellular PVC is a synthetic plastic polymer created by mixing UPVC Resin and various additives to reach the manufacturer’s desired product characteristics. Cellular PVC is commonly used as a wood replacement product for non-structural cosmetic purposes such as siding, trim, windows, doors, and more.
How is Cellular PVC Manufactured?
Most cellular PVC manufacturers, such as AZEK and Versatex, start the process by mixing the Unmodified PVC resin and additives in a large blend tower. After this mixing process, the resin mixture and a foaming agent are fed into an extruder machine that heats the mixture and propels it through the die to create the product's desired shape. During the extrusion process, the foam is heated up, causing it to decompose and gas to be released within the PVC, causing it to rise as it comes out of the die. Eventually, the PVC as the PVC cools, it begins to settle into its final dimension. The desired shape is usually a large sheet commonly brought to a CNC machine to be routed to the desired end product.
